I am looking to settle my credit cards for less than what I owe and was interested in getting a company to do this for me. I am not interested in credit counseling- I’ve tried it before and just need to get this debt paid off.

How do credit card debt councilors work with credit card issuers?

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009
Gayle asked:

I’ve seen on t.v. how credit card debt councilors work with banks when people owe a lot of money on their credit cards. They say they can not only reduce the amount owed but also get your monthly payments down to where they are manageable. How do they do this, are there any consequences such as a reduction of credit score, and is it effective (do they really do this or is it a scam)? Also, how much do they charge? Thanks.

I am about to enter a a debt management program for one of my credit cards. The say that they can negotiate a settlement. My question is can I do that on my own? Will the credit card company listen to me? or do I need to let the management service handle it?

What is overdraft protection using my credit card?

Me1984 asked:

My bank has online banking and has the option to add overdraft protection using my credit card. You have to request it on the online banking website. They ask you to choose the credit card you have and than click on which account you will be using? Why would they ask me to choose the checking account I will be using for my credit card overdraft protection, when my credit card is completely different my checking account? If I overdraft my credit card, do they automatically take money from my checking account to pay the fee or something? I don’t understand quite how overdraft protection works on credit cards as opposed to a checking account.

How do I know if these credit card companies are reputable?

Within the past couple of months, I’ve been receiving several letters per week from credit card companies enticing me to apply. I have bad credit, got rid of all my credit cards eight years ago, and am still paying off old debt. Could these letters have something to do with the fact I bought a new car last fall? Should I apply for a card to build my credit back up? How would I know what company to go with?

I am 21 years old and in $15k of credit card debt. I make just about $14k a year. I made a lot of stupid decisions when i first got my credit cards. I am living at home and unable to to move out, or do anything at all for that matter. I don’t spend any money and I put all my money towards bills though a credit counselor. Would I be able to declare bankruptcy?

What is a good credit card to get that you almost will never get turned down for?

Saturday, January 24th, 2009
JD asked:

I currently have two credit cards, but would like to get one final one. I’ve been getting turned down for a few recently that I thought sounded good. What are some good cards and websites where I can get a credit card that almost every gets approved for? I’m young(21) and trying to establish some more credit. My friend got approved for a Best Buy credit card tonight and his credit isn’t that good. However, I just want a main card(for example: visa, discover) and not a store card. Thanks for any help.

My husband and I make pretty good money, although my salary will triple in about a year when I finish college but anyway, in the past we’ve paid of our credit cards, then got new ones and ran those right back up, then paid off again, cycle, cycle, cycle and I’m getting tired of wasting money this way! I wanted to read a book before my income tripled to help us stay OUT of debt and AWAY from credit cards, we just don’t know how!
